I went the expensive route and purchased a SECA scale that analyzes body fat, muscle and water thru electrical impedance. I liked the Visceral Adipose measurement feature.
The inputs I put in include age, gender, height, waist circumference and physical activity level.
The scale then uses impedance and calculates total body fat, % fat, muscle , water and Visceral fat.
So I calculated the waist to height ratio for the first ten people I put on the scale.
The six in the best shape (lowest visceral fat) ALL had waiist to height ratios of 0.50 or less.
The other six had higher ratios and higher visceral fat.
I like the scale very much but I could have saved a few bucks and ended up with the same risk categories by getting a better tape measure.
