There seems to be quite a bit of disagreement within the keto community as to how much potassium one should supplement. The general recommended intake is around 4700mg, but certain groups are claiming we should supplement in excess of the RDI. I’ve seen recommendations as high as 8 grams. Given that hyperkalemia is potentially lethal, I have serious concerns about recommending those sorts of levels, but at the same time, I want to do everything I can to optimize my own health and to provide the best advice for the people I work with. How much potassium is optimal? How much is unsafe?
